​This time of year is full of celebrations, sharing traditions, and spending time together. We use language, images, and design to share our messages and invitations with our loved ones, with our community, and with the world.

Unfortunately, any number of common missteps can change our seasons’ greetings from warm and welcoming to cold and exclusive...

• Using too much jargon without explanation can send the message that only those who understand these special terms are invited. ​
  ​​* Watch out for words like, “narthex”, “ecclesiastical”, or “sacristy” 

• Not incorporating signs to help your audience find their way around can send the message that only those who are regular members are welcome. 
  * Be sure to include signs directing people to the restroom, childcare, worship, and more
  
  
• Forgetting your external audience when planning logistics can send the message that only those “on the inside” are really expected to attend.
  * Watch out for phrases like, “beginning after the morning service”, “the same schedule as last year”, or simply forgetting to list an event’s location
